“Pan and Syrinx” – By Peter Paul Reubens

Syrinx was a Nymph of the River Ladon in Arkadia (southern Greece). She was pursued by the Greek God Pan and to avoid his embrace, she prayed to be transformed into a reed plant (syrinx). From her plant the god  crafted his famous pan-pipes.
